Diversified Drafting started in 2003 to provide construction documents (blueprints) for Residential & Light Commercial projects in the Northern Black Hills area of South Dakota. Since then we have done projects in North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming. We also produce “Part / Shop Drawings” for local welding shops.

Architect

Education

My first “drafting” class was a hand drafting class taken back in the 7th grade and progressed through high school. In college I transitioned into CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) along with more in-depth hand drafting. I graduated from Black Hills State University with a Bachelors of Science & Technology with a Drafting Minor.

Architect

Services

I use a 3D modeling program that allows me to “build” the home on the computer. This allows me to show the client every angle and aspect of the building prior to construction. The program allows me to create a realistic 3D rendering as well as 3D virtual tour walk-thru’s. For projects with difficult sites I am able to bring in topography from a survey and we can design the house to best utilize the site.

Drafting Experience

After graduating from college I worked for a custom lamp manufacturer in Northern California. We produced the drawings for custom light fixtures from conceptual design through mass production.

Upon returning to South Dakota I was employed by a local Architectural firm where our projects ranged from custom homes and remodels to healthcare facilities and school. This is where I learned about project management and coordinating with the different building trades.

After leaving the Architectural firm to start Diversified Drafting, I have done contract drafting for other Architectural and Structural Engineering firms, as well as working with homeowners and contractors.

Practical Experience

Throughout high school & college I worked in the construction fields. Whether it was with a local contractor building houses, or a bigger general contractor building a pre-engineered metal building (car dealership). In college I worked part time at a local lumber yard where I became familiar with all of the different building products & some of the local contractors.

More recently I just completed the construction of our new home. I was the general contractor on the project which was another great learning experience. I was able to complete the project with the help of some of the contractors I’ve worked with and family and friends.
